Become A Sponsor
Dear Prospective Sponsor,
The Brothers of Delta Epsilon Psi would like to invite you to support the 9th Annual Sugar Free Bowl to be held on November 12th, 2011. Sugar Free Bowl (SFB) is a city-wide charity flag football tournament held to raise awareness for Juvenile Diabetes. SFB is one of Austin’s premier service events to be held at the University of Texas intramural fields. The tournament will have about 450 players and over 500 volunteers and spectators.
We hope that you will support this charitable cause by donating to or sponsoring Sugar Free Bowl. Donations and sponsorships can be monetary or a part of the event itself such as food for teams and spectators, or merchandise to be distributed as prizes. In recognition for your generosity your company will be recognized at the event and displayed on the many promotional materials, including posters, fliers and over 600 t-shirts.
SFB was created by Delta Epsilon Psi’s Vishal Bhagat who himself was afflicted with juvenile diabetes. Vishal wanted to create an event that would raise an awareness and understanding of the disease. Vishal combined his passion for football with his dream of raising awareness for juvenile diabetes. His passion carried on to the rest of the fraternity and the product was the first Sugar Free Bowl held in October 2003 with over 200 players and 100 volunteers. Sugar Free Bowl continued to grow for two more years but was discontinued thereafter. Vishal passed away in a tragic accident in August 2006. The fraternity vowed to carry on Vishal’s dream and this past year Sugar Free Bowl returned from a two year hiatus and is here to stay.
Sugar-Free Bowl also became the main event of the Vishal Bhagat Fund, a foundation established by friends and family of Vishal with help from the fraternity to host different events raising money for juvenile diabetes. The 8th Annual Sugar Free Bowl took place on November 6th, 2010. This SFB was a huge success; with over twenty-five teams and 500 spectators it re-established SFB as one of the premier service events and expanded the tournament from a city-wide event to a state-open event. At this time Delta Epsilon Psi also presented a donation of $10,000 on behalf of the Vishal Bhagat Foundation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of Austin.
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) of Austin is striving to find a cure through research for a disease that affects 17 million Americans and 150 million people worldwide. Diabetes kills one American every three minutes and a new case is diagnosed every 40 seconds. Individuals afflicted with juvenile diabetes must constantly monitor and stabilize their insulin levels. This often involves administering insulin through injections and other lifestyle changes. JDRF brings together top researchers from around the world in search of a cure. This year Delta Epsilon Psi will expand on last year's success to make Sugar Free Bowl bigger and even more exciting than ever while keeping its primary purpose of raising awareness of Juvenile Diabetes.
